Hand-tooling is a method of leather making that is a work of art requiring many years of experience and a fine eye for detail and the individual beauty in each boot. For each hand-tooled boot, top quality leather is sculpted by hand by our experienced craftsmen to create the beautiful detail. To achieve such a standard of exquisite detailing, each of our craftsmen must have many years of experience working under skilled master leather-working artisans to achieve the skill necessary to make one of our hand-tooled creations. A hard leather toe box and a leather counter are time-tested methods of reinforcement that ensure the wearable comfort and durability of each boot. These centuries-old traditional methods keep your feet comfortable, clean and your boot odor-free for wear after wear because unlike artificial products, natural leather breathes and allows free circulation of air. All of EIKI boots and mules are constructed with a hard leather toe box and/or a leather counter to keep their shape. Most boots of lesser quality boots are constructed with thermoplastic materials for the toe cap and counter instead of leather which limit the lifespan and wearing comfort of these boots. In contrast to a thermoplastic toe box which will break under stress, a leather toe box will keep its shape even if your toe is stepped down upon by someone or something. A leather counter also extends the wearing life of the boot by preventing the inside of the boot surrounding the heel from wearing through the leather.

In contrast with cheaper metallic pegs common in boots of lesser quality, our visibly beautiful hardwood pegs will display the fine quality and workmanship of our boots, enabling you to wear them with pride. In addition to time-tested comfort, the traditional hand-made beauty of our boots is enhances with a double row of traditional hardwood pegs. Not only will these beautiful details enhance your pride in your handmade boots, but in contrast to cheap metallic pegs which wear against the leather and create looseness between the insole and outsole, these traditional materials will actually fit more tightly as time goes by. As the pegs absorb moisture from wearing they guarantee a tight lasting fit between the outsole and insole. In contrast to cheaper metallic pegs which may chafe your foot, traditional wooden pegs "flex" and move with your foot and the boot, thereby guaranteeing comfort.

Each heel on EIKI boots is constructed with a hard-soling method of durable leather that is stacked piece-over-piece in the desired shape by craftsmen who have years of experience. Our stacked heels are made of only high quality solid-leather that is selected for its ability to hold its shape and wear well over time. Being made of solid leather ensures that EIKI boots' stacked leather heels have more durability than ones made of lesser quality compressed leather or even compressed paper that is so common in boots of lesser quality.
Side seam
In keeping with our dedication to traditional long-wearing materials, each piping of the side seams is made of genuine leather. In contrast to "stock" boots which have side seams of vinyl or patent "leather" which can be hard and uncomfortable to the touch, our genuine leather side seams are soft to the touch ensuring wearing comfort from day one.
